One Night Only - Book Tour

Image
One Night Only Catherine Walsh ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #Netgalley #booktour #onenightonly #bookouture #romcom #CatherineWalsh This book sucked me at the beginning. Sarah wakes to her latest conquest laying next to her - quickly becoming irritated when he seems to slowly get his stuff together. After a disappointing work - her boss encouraging her to take some time away and return fresh, Sarah finally lands in Ireland for Annie and Paul's wedding. And lots of alcohol. Which is much needed when her latest conquest shows up - as Paul's brother. This is a great romcom book - lots of laughter, building tension, face planting scenarios and a main character who has to let go of the past

The Perfect Child - Review

Image
This author did an AMAZING job of everything.   The relationship between Hannah and Christopher.  So pristine and shiny only to become tarnished and stretched by parenthood,  reality. Janie's issues as a result of abuse- the manipulation,  behavior,  doctors.  Christopher's utter rejection of Hannah's reality, the truth of Janie's behavior.   Piper - the social worker just trying to save a child, help a family cope.  What brutal writing.  Well done!

The Crying House- Review

Image
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very creative,  well researched and excellent writing!  Casey forces herself to run just a little further - encouraged by a pink jacket waving in the wind. Stretching, she notices hair caught in splinters- the abandoned houses resting on pilings, clearly a hangout for local kids. Casey inspects the house to find the body of a high school student.  And the mummified remains of a young woman.  Jericho and his team assist Casey's, working together to find more mummified young women. Could one of them be Hannah, Casey's daughter who has been missing since the age of three.  I enjoyed this story - the creative plot, did not guess the killer until just about the end. Suspense made my leg jitter.  Loved the characters.  This is the first in this series I have read - I didn't feel like it held me back at all. Definitely want to read the next.

Little Girl Taken - Review

Image
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wow. Just wow. I stayed up past my bedtime two nights in a row to finish this book. It is that good!  The prologue details the suicide of two 12 yo girls who suffered trauma, shame. Madison is on her way for her first day of work - when she comes upon a car accident.  Blood on the seats - but only a infant in the backseat.  Nate returns from two months relaxing at Rex's house. He receives a phone call from Rex's neighbor- the police are at the house, out comes a body bag. Nate becomes the lead suspect.  This action packed, gasp out loud story will have you staying up late and begging for more.

Broken Girls - Review

Image
⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had to finish this book - short, kept my attention and loved the characters. Police are called to the woods when a decomposing body is found by a local teenager. Due to the state of decomp, no one could be expected to perform facial identification.  Bernie is forced to work with DCI Worth, as her DCI is still recovering. Known around the station as Worthless, Bernie can't help but feel Worth is purposefully dragging their investigation.  Together with her team, Anderson returns to their unit. Bernie failed to show for their lunch date. And now they're working together.  The case becomes quite the mystery - a nanny who was fired for having sex in her room; a biker who offers her as the prize - yet all are clueless about the biker's identity. A man posing as a 17 yo to obtain explicit pictures of 12 yo girls.  Great plot - I definitely became invested and did not guess the killer. Loved the characters - looking forward to the next release.

Dark Roads - Review

⭐⭐ Unpopular Opinion - I just could not love this book.  I felt for the characters but lacked a connection. The plot of a serial killer/rapist who primarily focused on First Nation young women was very compelling. Minorities clearly suffer from lack of attention, importance, etc. as well women. But I didn't feel this was the focus of the book.  Hailey's dad dies tragically in an accident - forcing her to move in with her aunt, her husband and young son. Vaughn is known in the community as The Ice Man - he becomes obsessed with Hailey; how she spends her time, her friends, etc. Sets a great, creepy vibe.  Hailey finds evidence of Vaughn victimizing not just her but also other young women in the community. She makes an anonymous call to another police officer and runs to hide in the woods.  A year later, Beth - one of the victim's of the serial killer/rapist, comes to town determined to solve her sister's murder. She becomes Vaughn's new obsession.  I appreciated the

Safe in My Arms - Review

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Piper left a toxic relationship, moved to Raisin Beach with her young son. Struggling, she stumbled upon a nursery school in need of a Director - and she never looked back. Until her attempted murder.  It's one of those painful school events - a brunch to start the new school year at the swanky, super expensive Silver Swans Nursery. Moms already established in cliques. Andrea takes out some Bailey's for her coffee. Ronnie and Lauren drift over - also looking lost and alone. Each has her own secrets. Lauren struggles with post partum rage; Andrea is transitioning; Ronnie escaped Jarrod.  These women - each have something to offer; we can all sympathize, seeing ourselves in their issues and complex lives.  This plot is well written, great suspense and the ending was well done.

Her Sister's Secret - Review

Image
⭐⭐⭐⭐ Oh that ending!  Isla's world crashes with one phone call. Callum, her nephew,  tells her Annie, his mother and Isla's sister has died tragically in a fire.   Isla drops her life to rush to his side. After the initial investigation,  the police determine both Annie and her husband, Dominic, are both brutally murdered before the fire. Shockingly Cal is arrested for Annie's murder. And the secrets are just beginning.   Dealing with her sister's tragic death, Isla is forced to cope with Annie's life - all the secrets Annie spared her.  I loved these characters- Annie building an amazing life regardless of her life troubles. Isla embracing her sister's legacy- her friendships,  business, desperate to know what really happened.

How Much Wine - Book Tour

How Much Wine Will Fix My Broken Heart Kristen Bailey  #netgalley #booktour #mustread #FiveStars #howmuchwinewillfixmybrokenheart #kristenbailey #bookreview #mustread #womensfiction  So much love and laughter.  Amazing look at grief - with the best message: take your time; there is no right way to grieve.   Grace is raising two adopted daughters on her own. Well with the help of the sisters - four women who lend reality,  humor, kindness,  love, understanding and best of all encouragement.   A few years earlier,  Grace's husband died from cancer. Tom left letters and voice messages for those dearest to him. For Grace, Tom sent her around the world, to travel in his steps.  Joyce, Tom's mother,  asks Grace to help arrange a memorial. And to write a book recounting Tom's travels and their correspondence.   And so begins Grace's story. Overflowing with love, laughter, sorrow, pain and so much love.

Dog Eat Dog - Review

Image
⭐⭐⭐⭐ While walking their dogs,  Andy and his wife Laurie witness a man kicking his dog.  Before they can respond, a man comes to the rescue. The police arrive - Andy gives the man his card just in case.  Unfortunately,  Matthew needs his help. His blood connects him to a cold case in Maine.  Andy, his wife,  their dogs,  their staff and their dogs head up to Maine - convinced of Matthew's innocence.  He defended a dog.  Humor, shady characters, Andy's entourage- very enjoyable.   I listened to the audiobook- the narrator did a great job with the voices. Characters' personalities shine through.

What secret is Robert hiding? Why is Scott lying?  Amazing plot, fast paced and just riveting.
